Which prospects won and lost during the week?

North

Winners

1. Ali Marpet 6'3 307 OL Hobart (Division III)

- Marpet is probably the biggest winner out of everyone in Mobile. He more than held his own against much tougher competition. He noticeably shined during both one on ones and the team portion. Marpet has shown a lot of good things including quick feet and a surprising amount of strength as well. AM is very quick on the pull block and transitions his feet almost immediately. Round projection: 5-6

2. Danny Shelton 6'1 343 NT Washington

- Shelton was arguably the best player on the field each day of practice. He pretty much dominated everyone he went up against. The things I don't like about him are that his conditioning is poor, hand placement is below average, and that he has no counter move once the initial one is beaten. Round projection: Top 20

3. Nate Orchard 6'3 251 DE Utah

- Orchard showed why he could be argued as the best pass rusher in the Pac-12. He's a pure pass rusher at this point and needs to work on the run game. Consistently blew by blockers with speed rush. Got locked down by bigger blockers when trying to use bull rushes. Made some money this week. Round projection: 2-3

4. Laken Tomlinson 6'3 323 G Duke

- Tomlinson was the star on the OL for either side this week. He shows a good high low balance and isn't easily bullied by bigger tackles and ends. Footwork was a little sloppy for my tastes though. Round Projection: Mid 2 to Early 4

5. The entire North WR corps

- Ok, I'm going to bend the rules a bit here but they all showed out. Especially Duke's Jamison Crowder and Michigan State's Tony Lippett. Crowder is the receiver version of Darren Sproles. Lippett is your classic big body 6'2 190 WR that can go up and get it. Justin Hardy showed impressive route running and catching ability.

Honorable Mention:

A. David Cobb 5'10 226 RB Minnesota

- Cobb stood out all three days, especially on the last day when he showed more speed and agility than expected. He's a very decisive runner and rarely takes a loss. In fact, all three Big Ten RBs played very well.

B. Jeff Luc 5'11 263 LB Cincinnati

- Luc is a far better athlete than many will give him credit for. He showed a surprisingly good amount of agility in keeping up with the backs. Round projection: 5

Losers

1. The Quarterbacks

- All three were a mix of mediocre, terrible, and downright appalling. Baylor's Bryce Petty showed that he is just another system QB (one read and go), Oregon State's Sean Mannion should've stayed home, and ECU's Shane Carden should look for an Arena League job. Carden showed zero arm talent and threw picks like he was Jay Cutler on PEDs.

2. Hau'oli Kikaha 6'2 246 OLB Washington

- Looked slow during one on ones and relatively uninspired given his pedigree. Definitely lost money. Round projection: 4

South

Winners

1. David Johnson 6'0 224 RB Northern Iowa

- Impressed me during the one on one pass blocking drills. He won more than he lost, which is saying something considering the amount of talent facing him. Also showed out as a receiver out of the backfield. Round projection: 4-5

2. Garrett Grayson 6'2 215 QB Colorado State

- 2015's version of Jimmy G? He's the best QB on either side by default. Round projection: 3-4

3-6. The U

- WR Phillip Dorsett showed off an impressive burst and caught the ball well. He's a burner in the mold of a smaller Martavis Bryant. TE Clive Walford had scouts with visions of Jeremy Shockey/Jason Witten dancing in their heads. CB Ladarius Gunter could get himself drafted based off his measurables alone like a Byron Maxwell of Seattle. ILB Denzel Perryman confirmed his Day 2 status before getting hurt.

Honorable Mentions:

A. The Clemson duo

- Both LB Stephone Anthony and DL Grady Jarrett were excellent. Anthony is a classic example of the modern day inside linebacker: undersized, fleet footed with great instincts. Jarrett is Karl Klug if you will. A bit undersized for tackle but holds up well and constantly has a running motor.

B. Lynden Trail 6'6 262 DE/OLB Norfolk State

- Trail is a big outside linebacker that needs to convert to DE to have a shot. He made several splash plays but needs some work in the run game. Round projection: 4-5

C. Lorenzo Mauldin 6'3 256 Louisville

- See Nate Orchard but with better run stopping ability.

Losers

1. Devante Davis 6'2 220 WR UNLV

- He just couldn't get any separation from the defensive back and looked really slow out of his breaks. Think Peyton Manning with a torn quad AND wearing concrete shoes trying to scramble. That's how bad it was.

Who impressed and didn't do much on Day 3?

Day 3 of the week marks the final chance that the players are put through full pad practices. Friday is for walkthroughs and other obligations such as media and of course, visiting local hospitals among other charitable causes. Most teams have packed up and left for their home bases. Who won and lost the day? Here are some links to kick things off as usual.

CF 24/7 has some bonus thoughts from Mike Mayock

CF 24/7 also has a feature on KSU WR Tyler Lockett here

NFL.com features 8 things they learned on Day 3 practice sessions

Eric Galko has a report on the North practice

Walterfootball has reports on the South practice and North practice

My thoughts:

- ECU QB Shane Carden solidified his undrafted stock today with another poor performance. He was the love child of Chad Pennington and Jay Cutler. Didn't show much arm strength or talent and threw some hideous picks at least 5 different times.

- Baylor QB Bryce Petty pretty much answered the system questions in the WRONG way. He's an one read and go type of QB. Needs a lot of work.

- Danny Shelton. That is all.

- La'el Collins pretty much locked up the top tackle drafted honors this week. He's a monster

- As I mentioned earlier in the season, Hau'oli Kikaha is all smoke and mirrors.

- Utah DE Nate Orchard has confirmed my evaluation this week. He's by far the best pass rusher/athlete not named Shaq Thompson. Underrated guy who is one of the best pass rushers in the Pac-12.

- The only dude who "handled" Shelton was Duke's Laken Tomlinson. This LT has made a name for himself this week. Could be a 2nd round pick right now.

- The Clemson duo of LB Stephone Anthony and DT Grady Jarrett both impressed today and this week in total.

- Our Big Ten RBs stepped up as well. Both David Cobb and Ameer Abdullah impressed me in their pass blocking one on ones.

- Garrett Grayson, third best QB in the class? We will have to see but he is well on his way after a solid week.

Additional notes:

- I'd like to thank Jimmy for the chance to do this again and more importantly, you the readers who graciously took the time to read the posts. I look forward to bringing more draft notes to the best SB Nation site out there as we move along the process.

- Not to be too self indulgent but most of the prospects I did highlight in my preview posts and the fan guides managed to shine this week.

- Also, a welcome for Terry Lambert is in order. Welcome Terry!

Who rose and fell on Day 2?

Day 2 brings us the first of two padded practices where the prospects can either earn or lose the most of their stock. Which ones stood out and which ones faltered under the limelight of many eyes upon them?

Our friend Dan Kadar from MtD has his insights on Day 2 here

Walterfootball has a list of which teams had prospect meetings

The Eagles' NFL site has video of Skill players 1 on 1s

They also have video of the OL/DL one on ones

Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting has his North practice breakdown

CF 24/7 broke down the North practice

Dane Brugler of CBS Sports broke down which prospects from The U that shined the most

My Thoughts on the practices:

- It was the Danny Shelton show again today. He is flying up the boards and could be a Top 10 pick before it's all said and done.

- As expected, the Clemson contingent of LB Stephone Anthony and DT Grady Jarrett showed a lot of good stuff today. Clemson was ranked among the best defenses for a reason. These two were why.

- You'll hear a lot of it going forward but Miami guys are pretty good athletes without coaching or talent around them. The program has been in a tailspin with no end in sight because the coaching staff there is so poor and cannot recruit their always loaded backyard.

- Of the QBs in action, Baylor's Bryce Petty continued to play the best. Garrett Grayson had another standout practice.

- I might sound like a broken record at this point but LSU's La'el Collins is a monster and stoned everyone in his way.

- ECU WR Justin Hardy had a pretty mixed day, he's a solid route runner but had some drops aka the Ty Montgomery Snydrome.

- His ECU teammate QB Shane Carden continued to be not so good, showing zero arm strength and throwing up wounded ducks. Carden might slip into the undrafted range.

Additional notes:

- The North receivers are really good. It might be the best collection of receiving talent in a long time in Mobile.

- The South has the best OL/DL competitions by far.

- Again, UCLA QB Brett Hundley really hurt his stock by not showing up.

Who stood out and who fell on the first day of practice?

Day 1 is in the books with the both practices concluded and the legendary "Underwear Olympics" completed. Both the North and South were in shells and shorts as expected on the first day of practice. The North team held their practice session at Ladd-Peebles while the South held theirs at Fairhope Stadium. Before all of this, Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage just blasted into the guys who skipped out, including three each from FSU and UCLA for being jerks about it aka didn't respond or waited until the last possible minute to reject it. He excused several others for being too hurt or had season ending injuries to participate. So if you see an invitation with the Reeses' logo on it in the mail, be prompt in responding or accept it immediately.

Optimum Scouting has the full Weigh-ins and bonus thoughts on the subject

Alabama's 247 Sports site has a report on the former Tide players

The Clarion-Ledger has some reports on how the Ole Miss alumni fared in today's practice

Walterfootball has the Rumor Mill churning with some interesting notes

Rob Rang has some thoughts on who won and lost the infamous Underwear Olympics

Joe Fann of Titansonline writes about the Day 1 North Team standouts

Mike Mayock waxes poetic about his Day 1 standouts

My thoughts:

- Former Auburn QB Nick Marshall, to his credit, asked to change positions to cornerback where he's better suited.

- Speaking of Marshall, he looked like he never left the position. He's a great athlete with good hip rotations and the instincts are solid.

- There were no major surprises at the Weigh-In numbers except Cincy's Jeff Luc, who came in at 5'11 263.

- Washington's Danny Shelton is nearly impossible to block one on one. He's a big body nose tackle in the form of a Wilfork. If he were still somehow there at 33, I'd sprint up to the podium and announce the pick myself if I was Ruston Webster.

- The Duke Blue Devils contingent that I highlighted in my preview posts showed out today. WR Jamison Crowder was the most impressive receiver out there, he has speed to burn and can play special teams. G Laken Tomlinson more than held his own against the vaunted DL of the North.

- Michigan State WR Tony Lippett also stood out. He's a hands catcher and the best at it in Mobile. Not the fastest guy but will get you the tough yards. I'd gladly take him in the third round if he's still there.

- LSU OT La'el Collins showed why he's one of the best tackles in the draft. Collins stoned virtually every guy thrown at him. He has quick feet and good lateral movement. Arguably the best tackle there with Cam Erving out.

- Another receiver that showed good as advertised was Tyler Lockett from Kansas State.

- Speaking of elite Pac-12 defenders, Utah's Nate Orchard worked with his hand in the dirt for almost all of the practice. He's a standup OLB in actuality. Didn't seem fazed at all rushing from the end position.

- Watch for CSU QB Garrett Grayson have a Jimmy Garopollo type of leap this week and beyond.

The Titans coaching staff is in Mobile, Alabama this week coaching the north team in the Senior Bowl. This gives them a really good opportunity to get to know some of the players down there better. One guy that could be in play with the #2 pick but isn't at the Senior Bowl is Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. That isn't for lack of trying on Ken Whisenhunt's part:

Ken Whisenhunt reached out to Mariota's people. Wanted him at @seniorbowl and still says he has open invitation this week.

— Eric Edholm (@Eric_Edholm) January 20, 2015

I have made it pretty clear that I would not be a fan of the Titans drafting Mariota as long as Whisenhunt is the coach. The Whiz has no desire to change his offense for anyone- especially not a quarterback that wants to do anything other than 7 seven step drops (even behind and offensive line with it's 85th string tackle out there). Mariota would have very little chance to succeed with Whisenhunt as his coach.

If Mariota is smart, he will stay as far away from Whisenhunt as possible. The distance between Mobile, Alabama and Eugene, Oregon is probably about the appropriate amount of distance.

He lists T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh, who Dan mocked to the Titans as part of a trade down scenario earlier this week, as one of the guys who has the most to gain this week. Here is what McShay had to say:

Clemmings has prototypical size for the tackle position with long arms and a solid base, and he's an easy mover for his size who is athletic enough to develop into a starting left tackle in the NFL. A strong showing versus top pass-rushers like Nate Orchard and Hau-oli Kikaha in practice this week could earn Clemmings a spot in the top 15 picks in the draft.

Clemmings sounds like a bit of a project at the NFL level. That is not something the Titans should be looking for in the first round of this draft.

He also listed Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor as someone who has a lot to gain. Petty looks like an NFL QB, but he will have to show that he can run an NFL offense this week after not having a playbook during his time at Baylor.

Here is McShay's top 10:

1. Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
2. T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh
3. Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State
4. Trey Flowers, DE, Arkansas
5. Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami (FL)
6.
Welcome to Reese's #SeniorBowl week 2015!

The week that will determine a lot of aspirations and projections for many prospects has arrived. Players began arriving on Sunday and throughout the day yesterday. Tuesday is the real beginning for the week ahead when prospects are weighed and measured in the morning (this is always fun to see which schools are "stretching the truth" about their players and which ones aren't). Practices begin on Tuesday as well. Really, the biggest days for the prospects are these three practices, not the actual game. As always, I'll have a recap post up later on each day of practice.
My thoughts

- The North team is absolutely loaded with great front seven talent, particularly on the defensive line. The secondary isn't too bad either. At any rate, the Titans should have plenty of opportunities to bolster the defense.

- The QB and WR advantage also clearly favors the North team.

- UCLA QB Brett Hundley opted to skip the proceedings, much to the dismay of everyone. Hundley really could've improved his stock but this comes off as AJ McCarron part two. He's not that good of a QB to blow off this event.

- Roster breakdown by conference: SEC (25), Pac-12 (16), Big Ten (14), ACC (11), Big 12 (10), Group of 5 (16), FCS and Division II + III (13)

- There's one area that the South enjoys an advantage: the offensive line. The one on ones between OL and DL should be fun.

Who are the best defensive prospects to watch in Mobile?

NORTH

1. Za'Darius Smith 6'5 263 DE Kentucky

- Coming off a dominant performance in the East-West Shrine game, Smith got "promoted" to the Senior Bowl. Smith is a huge defensive end prospect that had a great career for the Wildcats. He really blossomed under the tutelage of defensive mastermind and HC Mark Stoops. Mr. Smith has a real chance to be drafted within the first four rounds if he continues on the path that he is on.

2. Doran Grant 5'10 193 CB Ohio State

- Grant is a late bloomer in that he really came on during his junior season after two years of not doing much. 2014 was another good year for him as he was the leader of the Buckeyes secondary after Bradley Roby graduated. He's a smart corner in that he makes the receiver show their cards first before countering. Very disciplined in the art of playing cornerback.

3. Jordan Hicks 6'2 244 OLB Texas

- Hicks would be gone by the third round just based on his film alone but his medical history is an extensive one so thus he falls right into the Titans' laps in the sixth. He finally showed the promise and potential of a five star recruit this year. Hicks was the defensive general for the Longhorns and played like it. Possesses very good tackling ability and form. The instincts are off the charts. Agility and speed is above average as well.

4. Nate Orchard 6'4 255 DE Utah

- Orchard was possibly the Pac-12 best pass rusher in a conference that was full of elite pass rushing talent.

5. Kurtis Drummond 6'1 200 S Michigan State

- One of the best safeties in the country. He's a leader of the vaunted Spartans secondary. A big hitter that needs to refine his pass coverage skills.

Honorable mention:

1. Danny Shelton 6'1 339 DL Washington

2. Hayes Pullard 6'0 230 LB USC

3. Quandre Diggs 5'10 200 CB Texas

4. Hau'oli Kikaha 6'3 260 DE Washington

5. Jeff Luc 6'0 251 LB Cincinnati

SOUTH

1. Stephone Anthony 6'2 245 LB Clemson

- Anthony is one of the better and underrated inside linebackers. He isn't in Denzel Perryman's class but a good athlete in his own right. A field general type of linebacker that commands the entire defense.

2. Denzel Perryman ILB 5'11 242 Miami

- Perryman is one of the best inside linebackers in this class. He's a big hitter with a nose for the football. A good athlete that can cover fleet footed slot receivers and is almost impossible to block due to his instincts and strength. He also has the talent to play outside 'backer as well but is better suited inside. Would I take him on the Titans? Yes. He can pair with AJ Williamson inside and move Wesley Woodyard outside where his freelancing might be better utilized.

3. Grady Jarrett 6'1 295 DT Clemson

- Jarrett is a bit undersized for the tackle position but has a consistent motor that doesn't stop. He's in the mold of the Titans' own Jurrell Casey.

4. Kevin White 5'9 174 CB TCU

- White had a great game against Kevin White the receiver. He effectively shut him down in that game. White does come with size questions. He will need to continue his great form in Mobile.

5. Markus Golden 6'2 260 DE Missouri

- The "other guy" on Missouri's standout defensive line combo. Golden is just as good as Shane Ray. He will need to show out during one on ones to improve his stock into the early rounds.

Honorable mention:

1. Lorenzo Mauldin 6'4 252 OLB Louisville

2. Trey Flowers 6'3 262 DE Arkansas

3. Gabe Wright 6'2 290 DL Auburn

4. Senquez Golden 5'9 180 CB Ole Miss

5. Amarlo Herrera 6'0 244 LB Georgia
