Adam Schefter is reporting that Ken Whisenhunt will have a job in the next 48 hours. Will it be silver and blue or two-toned blue?

Just now @AdamSchefter said Whisenhunt likely to make decision in next 48 hours about jobs. <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Lions&src=hash">#Lions.
So there you have it. What we don't know is if the Titans have even offered him the job. They have talked to him, but there is still the report hanging out there that they want to talk to the guys in Seattle. Was Whisenhunt impressive enough in his interview that Ruston Webster will go ahead and make an offer?

I guess we will know soon. Whisenhunt will either be a good coach or a bad coach. How is that for analysis?

The fact is that we don't really know. He had success with a good quarterback and two good receivers. Can he replicate that success again? Time will tell.

Jommy's favorite for the Tennessee Titans head coaching job, Mike Zimmer, is reported to have a second interview with the Minnesota Vikings this week.

<a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Bengals&src=hash">#Bengals DC Mike Zimmer is expected to have his 2nd interview with the <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Vikings&src=hash">#Vikings early next week, source confirmed.
— Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) January 11, 2014

It has been rumored for a while that Mike Zimmer is the favorite in Minnesota. They will have him in for another chat this week. The Titans haven't announced a second round of interviews yet.

They might not have any if yesterday's report from Adam Schefter is true about the Titans being "smitten" with Seattle. Dan Quinn was the name that Jim Wyatt put out there from the start.

When it comes to these searches it is always going to be a bit of a crap shoot, but I hope Ruston Webster has had an open mind when talking to these other guys. It is not a good idea to have a candidate you are set on- especially when you haven't interviewed him yet.

The Vikings are doing in right. Here is there list of interviews per PFT:

49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula interviewed on Saturday, joining Zimmer, Bowles, Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton, Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
That is a pretty exhaustive list.

Much like a game of musical chairs, someone will be left standing at the end.

Seven teams let go of their head coaches by the end of 2013, but only three have filled the vacancy so far. The Texans, Buccaneers, and Redskins have all signed their new commanders, leaving the Lions, Titans, Browns, and Vikings still hunting.

Many of the same coaches are being looked at by the remaining teams, but the Titans are rumored to have a heavy interest in the Seattle coordinators, namely the defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. The rub here, however, is that the Seahawks' staff can't be interviewed until their season is over at this point. The Titans missed their window to interview the teams on a bye week last weekend, and now that the team has beat the Saints, there will be at least another week to their season.

So do you wait?

The Titans have already interviewed Ken Wisenhunt, Mike Zimmer and Jim Caldwell. The Seahawks coordinators are the last rumored to be on the docket.

If the Titans like any of the candidates that they have interviewed, it seems they now have the age old "bird in the hand" proposition in front of them. If you wait for the chance to interview Quinn, you may be waiting while the other candidates you like find new homes. Say it comes down to you and one other team waiting for only one guy to come free. If the Titans and Vikings, for example, hold out for Quinn, and Quinn chooses Minnesota, you're the last team standing when the music stops.

Or are you?

From a meager outsiders view, it seems that there won't be a team left standing, but rather a viable candidate left without a team. Wisenhunt, Zimmer, Quinn, Bevell, and even Greg Roman (there haven't been any rumors the Titans in particular are interested) are all still out there. That's five by my count, with only four teams left.

The only way you get left holding a bag of fools gold is if the candidate you coveted and waited for (Quin), bombs the interview, and you realize you've made a mistake all along. I can't imagine Ruston Webster hasn't had enough conversations to know that that won't be the case. I also can't imagine them holding out for the Seahawks without a firm belief the feelings are mutual.

There's no doubt everyone will have a partner at the end of this dance. The only question will be if it's the one you really want. Tommy Smith, the new commander in chief of the organization is said to be "smitten" with the Seahawks organization. Throw in the fact that the numbers seem to be in their favor, the Titans very well may wait this one out.

The Tennessee Titans search for a new head coach is now a week old. Here is what we have learned this past week.

Ruston Webster completed four interviews this week- Jay Gruden, Jim Caldwell, Mike Zimmer and Ken Whisenhunt. Gruden is obviously off of their board now that he has been hired by the Washington Redskins. It is also suspected that Webster would like to interview Dan Quinn, but he will not be able to do that until the Seahawks are eliminated.

Jim Caldwell is not getting the job. I don't care how well he interviewed.

That leaves us with Zimmer and Whisenhunt from the first group. It was believe that Zimmer was the favorite in Minnesota, but he left their without an offer after interviewing this week, and the Vikings are now set to interview Greg Roman of the 49ers.

It is believe that Whisenhunt is the favorite in Detroit.

Webster should have a good deal of intelligence on Quinn. Their time in Seattle didn't overlap, but I am sure Webster still has plenty of connections out there who can give him information. So if Quinn is his guy, I am OK with him waiting (of course Seattle could lose today and this all be moot).

The biggest concern I have with waiting for Quinn is the staff he would then be able to hire. If the Seahawks do make the Super Bowl, most of the assistant moving around the league will be done. Will he still be able to pull two quality coordinators?

I would still like to see the Titans talk to Roman, Hue Jackson, Ray Horton and Todd Bowles, but it is not looking like that is going happen.

Titans GM Ruston Webster has flown out to San Diego today to interview Ken Whisenhunt for the open Head Coaching position in Nashville.

I found it odd that Smith and Webster didn't bring Whisehunt to STSP, but it was likely a scheduling issue, as the San Diego coach is a busy man these days. He has also been linked to the Detroit Head Coaching job thus far.

The ex Arizona coach got his first real run in the NFL during his time with the Steelers, where he was a TE coach, and then an offensive coordinator in the wake of Mike Mularkey's departure for the Buffalo Bills in 2004. His performance there was notable, including a now famous wide receiver reverse call to Antwan Randal El in the Superbowl.

Personally, I don't have any real interest in Whisenhunt as a Head Coach. He had plenty of time to show he was the right man for the job in Arizona, and his only real accomplishment was riding a stellar season from Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald. He is no doubt an accomplished offensive mind, but his last stint suggests he was unfit to coordinate a football team as it's head.

There is no doubt he ownership in Arizona interfered often during his tenure, and I expect that had something to do with his performance in the desert, but that said, his devolution to an offensive coordinator for the Chargers has done wonders to showcase his real talent. This is likely Webster doing his due diligence while waiting for Seattle to be bounced from the playoffs. Let's hope that is sooner rather than later.

Per La Canfora, it is likely that one of the two Seattle coordinators will be Tennessee's next head coach. We've all heard about Bevell, but Quinn's name is a little more obscure to casual fans. Why is he being mentioned in NFL coaching circles this offseason?

Per Jason La Canfora (so take this with a grain of salt), the Titans are extremely interested in both Seattle coordinators for their Head Coaching gig. According to him, Quinn is actually the frontrunner to replace Mike Munchak in Tennessee.

After doing a great job with Seattle's D-line under Jim Mora, Quinn expanded his resume by coaching the D-lines of the 49ers, Dolphins, and Jets from 2003 - 2008. Quinn then went to the University of Florida as the Defensive Coordinator where he helped run a top Gators defense for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

His return to Seattle, this time at DC, was impressive to say the least. Quinn replaced Gus Bradley and led the defense to increased heights this past year. His unit ended the regular season ranked 1st in scoring defense, yards against, passing defense, turnovers forced, and interceptions. He is also credited with moving Red Bryant around on that D line to get the most out of him, and that has been a great success as well. The Titans are said to be very high on both Seattle coordinators, and the Webster-Seattle ties only intensify that link. Let's hope the Titans go with Quinn or Bevell when all is said and done. Most Seattle experts expect to lose both coordinators this year, and Carrol will be forced to bring in two new guys for his Seahawks team for the first time in his four year stint.

In addition, Quinn has had a bevy of success coaching particular players: that list included Chris Clemons (11 sacks under Quinnin 2010), Patrick Kerney (whom he coached during two pro bowl appearances), Shaun Ellis and Kris Jenkins (while with the Jets, both pro bowlers under Quinn), and even Jason Taylor (In Miami 2005 and 2006, during which he produced 25.5 sacks, both pro bowl years).

After perusing the candidates available this season, Titans fans should be excited about who Webster and Tommy Smith are targeting (aside from Caldwell and Whisenhunt that is). And like I said before, I have warmed to the idea of adding a defensive guy like Zimmer, and now Quinn.

Updates to follow. Stay tuned Titans Nation.

NFL Network is reporting that the Washington Redskins and Jay Gruden are hammering out a deal to make him the team's next head coach.

I'm told Jay Gruden and the Redskins are currently working out the final details to make him the team's new head coach.
— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) January 9, 2014

To be honest, I am good with this. Jay Gruden was never at the top of my list for the Titans. I think he did a better job with Andy Dalton than he gets credit for, and he might end up being a better head coach than coordinator, but I wasn't real impressed with his in-game play calling.

So that is one domino down. Mike Zimmer still on the board.

[UPDATE]- Done deal for Gruden in Washington.

For some reason, Ken Whisenhunt doesn't get me fired up. He had some good years in Arizona with Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, but then again, who couldn't. That really isn't fair because he did resurrect Warner's career, but I am still just not a fan.

Whisenhunt couldn't find a QB with the Cardinals after Warner left. That worries me a little bit because the next coach here is going to have to develop a quarterback- whether it be Jake Locker or somebody else.

Anyway, here's to hoping Mike Zimmer knocks Ruston's socks off today.
