The Tennessee Titans played one of their best halves in the first half of today’s 28-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars will now be watching the playoffs from the comfort of their own homes! Payback is so, so sweet. The win also kept the Titans from going winless in the division for the first time since the Houston Oilers days.
Mike Vrabel had this team playing hard all the way to the end. That by itself does not make him a great coach, but it does mean that he never lost the locker room in a season that has been over for longer than the last few weeks when the Titans were officially eliminated. His fate will now be determined by the meetings that he has with the team’s decision-makers this week.
If it was Derrick Henry’s last game as a Titan, he went out in style with his longest run of the season on the way to a 153-yard performance. He also had a rushing touchdown which gave him 90 for his career - good for a tie for 13th all-time. I got a little bit emotional watching him break off the big run.
It was a big day for DeAndre Hopkins who earned an extra $500k in incentives with his 7/46/1 performance. He was a touchdown away from adding another $250k. Hopkins was a great signing for this team and should continue to be good next year with better play around him.
Tyjae Spears added his first receiving touchdown of his career on a play that pretty much looked dead when he first caught the ball. The Titans got a good one with Spears. His role should be expanded quite a bit next year.
The focus now turns to the offseason with the first domino to be a decision on Vrabel’s future with the team. We will keep you up to date with all of that information here.
