Titans coaching search: Tennessee requests interview with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson is a popular guy this cycle.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network is reporting that the Tennessee Titans have requested to interview Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson for their vacant head coaching position. Johnson is a popular candidate in this cycle with four requests already. He will end up with a request for every job that is open.

Johnson started his coaching career at Boston College. He spent three years there before joining the Miami Dolphins. He was with the Dolphins from 2012 to 2018. In 2019 he joined the Lions staff as an offensive quality control coach. He has been their offensive coordinator for the last two seasons.

We are still early in the process, but it appears that Johnson could have his pick of the open jobs. Some people out there are saying the Titans aren’t an attractive job, but they have a promising young quarterback, a ton of cap space, and the seventh pick in the draft. There is certainly a lot to like here.

The names we have seen reported that the Titans want to interview so far include:

Brian Callahan

Aaron Glenn

Antonio Pierce

Dan Quinn

Mike Kafka

Ben Johnson

The Titans’ head coaching position came open Tuesday when controlling owner Amy Adams-Strunk fired Mike Vrabel after six seasons and a 54-45 record.
