Titans-Texans Final Injury Report: CJ Stroud, Jeffery Simmons OUT

The Houston Texans will be without their rookie quarterback on Sunday

The Tennessee Titans (5-8) and Houston Texans (7-6) released Friday’s injury report ahead of Sunday’s AFC South showdown. The Texans ruled OUT quarterback CJ Stroud, among others. The Titans will be without Jeffery Simmons.

The Titans will be facing Texans backup quarterback Davis Mills. Mills last played against the Titans last season, throwing 178 yards and a touchdown in a 19-14 win over a Malik Willis-led offense. Stroud’s absence represents a massive blow for the Texans.

Simmons continues to recover from a multi-week knee injury. The Titans also released Teair Tart from his contract on Friday, just minutes after telling reporters he was OUT for Sunday. The Titans are thin on the defensive line. In addition to Simmons and Tart, Kyle Peko was recently placed on season-ending IR. The Titans recently added two defensive linemen, Keondre Coburn and Quinton Bohanna, to their 53-man roster. They’ll be active alongside the likes of Jaleel Johnson, Marlon Davidson, and TK McLendon Jr.

Denico Autry was downgraded to non-participant after practicing in limited fashion on Thursday. That’s typically bad news. Autry is nursing a knee/illness designation. If anyone’s tough enough to gut it out, it’s Autry.

Tight end Josh Whyle (knee) and wide receiver Kyle Philips (hamstring) have also been ruled OUT. Kevin Rader should play despite an illness designation. Treylon Burks, Chris Moore, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine will earn snaps opposite DeAndre Hopkins.

Stroud never came close to clearing concussion protocol, even if the Texans are playing coy with their “doubtful” designation. The Texans will also be without fellow first-round rookie Will Anderson Jr. on Sunday. Anderson Jr. is nursing a preventative ankle injury.

Wide receiver Nico Collins (calf) will not play against the Titans. Noah Brown, who has been limited this week, will serve as the Texans’ No. 1 wideout after Tank Dell also suffered a season-ending injury. Brown, Robert Woods, and Dalton Schultz will be the Texans’ go-to targets in the passing game.

George Fant (hip) won’t play with a hip injury. Charlie Heck will start at right tackle opposite Laremy Tunsil. Linebacker Blake Cashman (hamstring) and cornerback Tavierre Thomas (hamstring) have also been ruled OUT.
