2021 NFL Draft: Titans select linebacker Monty Rice with pick No. 92

After filling needs at right tackle and cornerback with the first two selections, wide receiver and tight end were left as the most glaring spots remaining. Unfortunately for the Titans, a run on both brought us to pick No. 85, prompting Jon Robinson to trade back with the Packers.

Following that, with the 92nd overall pick, the Titans selected linebacker Monty Rice out of Georgia. The 6-1, 235 pound off-ball linebacker was a four-year contributor at Georgia, racking up 219 total tackles in his career.

The pick on the surface is a strange one, considering the other immediate needs. Rashaan Evans, Jayon Brown and David Long are all returning in 2021, making this a pick for 2022, when the Titans could lose both Brown and Evans.

Rice brings a lot to an NFL team. He’s exceptional at shedding blocks. Rice is an instinctual inside backer that knows how to shed blocks and climb through traffic at the second level. He also anticipates which lane a runner is going to pick and is a sure tackler when he gets to the ball. Rice wasn’t asked to blitz often in UGA’s defensive scheme, but he had some good moments when he did. (DawgSports)

The Titans have one pick left tonight, coming up at No. 100.
