Mel Kiper has also published his final mock draft ahead of the 2021 NFL mock draft. He, like Todd McShay, has the Titans picking a corner with this pick. It is, however, a different cornerback than the one McShay selected. Kiper has the Titans taking Greg Newsome II from Northwestern.
I would be happy with this pick. The Titans have a huge need at corner and wide receiver. I have trouble seeing a scenario where those two positions shouldn’t be their first two picks in whatever order. We know this draft is deep at wide receiver, so it might make sense to take the corner first.
Newsome doesn’t have the upside that Caleb Farley does, but he also doesn’t come with the same medical concerns. This pick feels a lot safer* than the Farley pick for that reason.
Here is what Kiper had to say about the pick:
With slot receiver Elijah Moore off the board, the Titans can fill another immediate need at cornerback. Newsome had a tremendous 2020 season.
*There is no such thing as a “safe” pick in the NFL draft.
