Resetting the Titans’ needs after Day 1 deals

NFL: Buffalo Bills at Pittsburgh Steelers Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

We have talked since about week 2 of the 2020 season about how this offseason was going to be all about adding to the pass rush. It was pretty clear at that point that the moves they made last offseason weren’t going to be much help. That’s exactly what Jon Robinson did yesterday when he added a guy that can pressure from the middle, Denico Autry, and from the EDGE Bud Dupree.

Robinson was also able to add depth at tackle with the Kendall Lamm signing. We all know that it sucks to be spending money on a tackle after re-signing Dennis Kelly and drafting Isaiah Wilson in the first round last year, but we all know that story.

They also brought back Geoff Swaim on a 1-year deal. I joked about that on Twitter, but he was a solid piece of the 2020 offense as John Glennon pointed out:

The Titans did suffer some hits to the offense on day one with Jonnu Smith leaving for the Patriots and Corey Davis leaving for the Jets. Both of those guys will definitely be missed.

As we turn to day 2 of the negotiation period the Titans now have some big needs on the offensive side of the ball - especially at wide receiver. They are really thin at the position behind A.J. Brown. There weren't many receivers signed yesterday, so guys like Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Will Fuller are still available. I wouldn’t mind seeing Robinson sign a guy in the next couple of days and still spend an early draft pick on the position.

The other huge need they have right now is at corner. Hopefully the defensive backs won’t have to cover for days like they did in 2020, but they still need to add a guy behind Adoree Jackson and Kristian Fulton to round out that backfield. Again, wouldn’t mind seeing a free agent added that can come in and play as well as a draft pick at the position in the first two days.

I’ll use this thread for updates throughout the day.
