ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Derrick Henry suffered a potentially season-ending foot injury in yesterday’s game against the Colts. Jay Glazer is reporting that the fear is he broke his 5th metatarsal. I don’t really know what that is, but apparently it’s really bad.
Listen to my emergency podcast on the injury here.
This sucks on so many levels. First, for the team, this offense obviously runs through Henry. Even if he isn’t being effective in a game, the threat of him being out there keeps a defense honest. Ryan Tannehill has been really good with the Titans. Now we will find out how much of that was attributed to Henry being so good.
It sucks for Henry because he was on pace to lead the league in rushing for a third straight year. That would have punched his ticket to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was starting to enter the conversation as the best running back in the history of the league. There is still time for that to happen, but this slows it down.
Jon Robinson has his work cut out for him now. Of course you can’t just replace Derrick Henry, but there isn’t even a running back on this roster currently that can shoulder a normal workload. The trade deadline is tomorrow. JRob is going to have to make a move to add a player. More on that later.
