Mike Vrabel and Jon Robinson have scoured the planet in search of the best defensive coordinator they could find. They came back with Shane Bowen. The same Shane Bowen who was calling the defensive plays last season but didn’t have the title of defensive coordinator. Yes, that defense that was really, really bad all the way around and historically bad on 3rd down. Also, the same defense that was so complicated that all of the players played slow all season long because they couldn’t figure it out.
Yep. They are running it back. Great decision!
Here is what Vrabel had to say about it (via Jim Wyatt):
...Shane will move into the dedicated role of coordinator, with Ryan taking over the outside linebackers this year, and I am looking forward to him growing in that role. We are going to work hard to improve that side of the ball through better coaching, improving our system and our players. I like the group we have on the defensive staff and I am confident that we will improve.”
The same thing Vrabel always says when things don’t go well. That’s all I can say about this for now....
