Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars and Urban Meyer are in advance talks to make Meyer their next head coach. We have seen Meyer be wishy-washy in the past, so there is still a chance this won’t happen, but when Schefter comes out with something like this it usually happens. Meyer obviously has an extremely successful college track record. Will it translate to the NFL?
Of course Meyer, if he is the guy, gets the benefit of having the first overall pick and Trevor Lawrence (or is there a chance he could want Justin Fields??). The Jags will also have a ton of cap space. That makes the job very appealing.
What doesn’t make the job so appealing is Jacksonville is a terrible city, the Sparkle Kitty fans are the worst, and the owner has said he wants at least some control over personnel. That never goes well.
The Jaguars have found a way to screw up pretty much every decision they have ever made as a franchise. I have hope that they will do that with these decisions as well.
