Titans add former Vanderbilt TE Jared Pinkney to Futures Contract

NFL: Combine Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Titans have signed former Vanderbilt tight end Jared Pinkney to a futures contract for 2021.

Pinkney was electric at Vanderbilt and quickly developed into a local fan favorite. In four seasons at Vanderbilt, Pinkney had 114 catches for 1,560 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. As a junior, Pinkney tallied 50 receptions for 774 yards and seven touchdowns, while earning second-team All-SEC accolades. He’s one of the best offensive playmakers to don the Commodore colors in the past decade.

This has the potential to be a very interesting signing for the Titans. The tight end position is very much in flux as Tennessee heads into a crucial offseason. Jonnu Smith, Geoff Swaim and MyCole Pruitt are all headed for free agency while Anthony Firkser is a restricted free agent. Should one or more of these guys head elsewhere, Pinkney could get a chance to prove himself in training camp.

Futures contract go into effect on the first day of the new league year. Since there are no practice squads during the offseason, teams are allowed to sign players for the offseason as they prepare for the next season.
