Video: Kalif Raymond makes deep grab on Day 1 of open practice

NFL: AFC Championship-Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Can you smell that?

It’s the scent of sweet, sweet football.

The Titans hit the field at Saint Thomas Sports Park on Friday for the first practice of training camp which was open to media.

Although the practice didn’t feature any pads or much contact, there were still some exciting moments on the field. The light practice makes sense considering the impact that Covid-19 has had on this offseason. Teams will ease into the mix of things, and that’s exactly what the Titans did today. It’s imperative that they don’t rush things as they try to keep the team healthy for the start of the season.

Yesterday, we wrote a piece summarizing the most interesting notes from Thursday’s video conference call with the assistant coaches. One of the more interesting nuggets was the battle for the WR4 position which will likely come down to Kalif Raymond, Cameron Batson and Rashard Davis.

We expect Raymond to hold the slight advantage, and it sounds like he started today on the right foot.

This highlight of him leaving veteran cornerback Johnathan Joseph in the dust made its rounds on social media today.

We all know that Raymond has the ability to turn the jets on at any given moment (so does Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey), but note the sweet release here off the ball that fools a savvy veteran like Joseph. They don’t call Raymond ‘The Route God’ for nothing.

Jim Wyatt also made note of Raymond’s standout performance on the practice field today. You could read more of Wyatt’s thoughts here.
