Strengths:
Love has been one of the most fascinating prospects to watch over the past two seasons. An absolute gunslinger in every sense of the word, the arm talent is out of this world. Love was behind some of the best throws we saw in college football in 2019. The NFL is a copycat league, and with the success of Patrick Mahomes, NFL teams are bound to be searching for the “next” Mahomes this off-season. I’m not a fan of comparing any prospect to Mahomes personally, but Love certainly has a similar pedigree.
Love isn’t afraid to test even the tightest of coverage windows. It lead to some mistakes, but you love a quarterback that isn’t afraid to push the ball downfield, especially in today’s NFL. There are times where his ball placement ability at every level of the field is elite. He had full control of the playbook and offense, leaving things completely wide open for himself at the next level. An NFL coach is going to love working with him in the future.
Measuring in at 6-4 and 224 pounds, Love features excellent size for the position. His overall athleticism, movement in the pocket and ability to pick up yards with his feet are top notch. A team is going to bet the farm on Love very early come April 23rd.
Weaknesses:
There are some serious question marks regarding his ability to process what’s going on in front of him at a high level. Love didn’t take the step forward in 2019 that everyone expected him to. In fact, he was much better in 2018 than he was in 2019. Love will have to do a better job taking care of the football at the next level. He threw 17 interceptions in 13 games this past season. He was far too careless and reckless at times. A lot of those mistakes would have been avoidable if he did a better job recognizing things both pre and post snap. He needs to improve in this area in order to realize his full potential.
Does he fit the Titans?
Hell yes. The Titans should bring back Ryan Tannehill in 2020, but Love would be the perfect young quarterback to sit behind him and bide his time like Patrick Mahomes did with Alex Smith. Unfortunately for the Titans, he’ll be long gone by the time they come on the clock at 29th overall, and it would take quite the trade-up to secure his services.
