I have said it a million times before, but I am really ready for March 16th to get here so the “legal tampering” period can get kicked off. There is so much speculation out there and probably 95% of it is just flat out wrong. Matthew Berry got Titans’ fans in a tizzy yesterday with his report that the Titans plan to let Ryan Tannehill test the market. Listen, Matthew Berry is really good at what he does, but we have to remember that what he does is fantasy football and entertainment. He is not in the news breaking business. I’m not trying to say that he is lying here. I am sure he talked to someone he considers a Titans’ insider and they told him what he wrote. I am just suggesting that his “insider” knows nothing more than you or I.
Are the Titans going to let Tannehill test the market? It sure seems like they are at this point, but whoever told TMR that really doesn’t have any idea. With all of that being said, if Tannehill does hit the market he will have interest. The Buccaneers are one of those teams rumored to have interest. That makes plenty of sense with the feeling there that Jameis Winston is going to be testing the market himself.
The other thing in Berry’s report is that the Titans are planning on using the tag on Derrick Henry if they cannot agree to terms on a long-term deal. My guess is that is absolutely true because there is no way the Titans are letting the heart and soul of their offense get away.
