Not to be outdone by Mel Kiper Jr releasing a 2020 NFL mock draft last week, Todd McShay has released a mock draft today (In$ider). He has the Titans picking Noah Iginoghene, CB, Auburn at pick #29. I am going to have to put some time in learning how to spell his last name if he is the Titans pick.
So far every mock that I have seen for the Titans has them going defense in the first round. That is probably a pretty safe bet as we sit here right now not knowing what the team ends up doing in free agency. Whether or not they are in the market for a corner or not will have a lot to do with whether or not they are able to re-sign Logan Ryan.
If they re-sign Ryan, corner goes to the bottom of the list as far as needs go. That would give them a corner group of Ryan, Adoree Jackson and Malcolm Butler (if he is eligible to return from IR, we better check with Buck Reising on that). That group was playing really well in 2019 when they were all healthy.
If they don’t re-sign Ryan, they will absolutely need a corner in the first round.
Here are McShay’s comments on the pick:
The Titans’ pass defense wasn’t very good in 2019, closing the year in the bottom 10 in yards allowed per game and hauling in just nine interceptions. Igbinoghene might not have had any picks of his own this past season, but he’s instinctive and fast. Logan Ryan might not re-sign, meaning there’s an opening opposite Adoree’ Jackson at cornerback, and Igbinoghene is the best player still on my board (No. 19 overall). Despite that seemingly perfect need-value match, it’s possible that Tennessee opts to draft a running back if it can’t bring back Derrick Henry (Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins, perhaps), a tight end (Notre Dame’s Cole Kmet is my highest-ranked prospect there) or an outside linebacker to ease the loss of Kamalei Correa to free agency.
What are your thoughts on Iginoghene?
