The AFC playoff picture: Week 12

NFL: Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The AFC playoff picture is starting to round into form. It’s amazing that just two weeks ago the Titans were 6-3 and on the outside looking in at the AFC playoffs. So much changes from week to week in the NFL. It is even crazier this year because at any point you could see a COVID situation like what the Ravens have going on right now.

As we sit today with one week 12 game left to be played between the Ravens and Steelers, the Titans hold the 3rd seed in the AFC. They took command of the AFC South with the win over the Colts on Sunday. Now they just need to take care of business down the stretch to host their first playoff game since 2008.

The Titans are two games behind the Chiefs for the second seed. The Titans probably need to win out to have a chance to finish ahead of Kansas City who is currently 10-1.

The Bills, who are currently the four seed, are also 8-3 but the Titans are ahead of them because of the head to head win back in week four.

If the season ended today the Titans would host the Dolphins in the first round of the playoffs. Keep in mind that currently the 7 teams will make the playoffs in each conference. There has been talk of adding playoff teams but no official changes yet. The current 6-8 seeds could change if the Ravens were able to beat the Steelers tomorrow.
