I have been in Nashville all my life. That means I have been here for the entire run of the Tennessee Titans. When they first became the Titans in 1999 they made a run to the Super Bowl. The next year they were the best team in the NFL but lost a heartbreaker to the Ravens in the divisional round. They certainly had a few more good years after that, but more often than not after 2003 they haven’t been very good.
That, combined with the fact that they haven’t had many star players come through here, has kept the Titans off of the national radar for the most part. The fanbase here is always asking for more respect, and seems like every time this team starts to get it something goes wrong.
This game on Sunday gives them the chance to be one of the teams that is talked about by everyone with a win. You know the deal; this is a match-up between two undefeated teams in week 7 of the NFL season. That almost never happens. That, and the fact that this game comes against the Steelers who always get the national attention, creates a perfect storm for the Titans to be the team EVERYONE is talking about...as long as they can earn it on the field.
I haven’t been this excited for a non-December regular season game in a long time. This team has had so many obstacles to overcome this season and they haven’t been tripped up yet. Here’s to hoping that can continue on Sunday!
