The big news is obviously Pamphile’s potential to miss the opener. If he can’t go, I would expect Jamil Douglas to get the start in his place as Nate Davis likely isn’t ready after missing much of camp. Pamphile and Douglas spent most of preseason competing for the right guard spot, so while the team clearly views Pamphile as the better option, I think it’s fair to say the gap probably isn’t that big in their eyes.
We haven’t seen Douglas take a snap in a regular season game for the Titans yet, but his work in preseason wasn’t too promising. Then again, neither was Pamphile’s. Right guard was always going to be the worst starting spot on the Titans roster, but now it just might be a little worse.
I wouldn’t imagine the gameplan changes a ton if Pamphile can’t go. Douglas is a similar type of player and athletic enough to execute the types of blocks this offense asks of its guards. The Titans will probably need to help him in pass pro as much as possible, but that was going to be true of Pamphile as well.
Hopefully Pamphile is able to get on the field Sunday, but if he can’t, I don’t think it dooms the Titans.
