The Titans — along with the 31 other NFL teams — must cut their roster from 90 players to 53 between now and 3:00 PM Central on Saturday, August 31st. We will be tracking the Titans roster cuts here as they come in and providing some commentary about what those cuts mean for other players who might or might not be making the roster.
We are currently at 13 reported cuts out of a total of 37 expected. No big surprises to this point.
TE/FB Ryan Hewitt will be released
TE Ryan Hewitt will not be part of the #Titans' 53-man roster.
— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) August 30, 2019
Not a huge surprise here, but this likely means that MyCole Pruitt and Anthony Firkser’s roster spots are safe. It’s also a hint that David Fluellen’s spot is probably safe as well.
OLB Derick Roberson will be released
OLB Derick Roberson will not be part of the #Titans' 53 man roster. Look for him on the practice squad.
— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) August 30, 2019
Roberson’s release was all but guaranteed after the Titans traded a conditional seventh round pick to the Packers for Reggie Gilbert. As PK mentions in his tweet, look for Roberson to be a guy that is targeted for the practice squad. It seems that the Titans liked what he did here, but think he needs more work before he’s ready to be a game day contributor.
DL Braxton Hoyett will be released
DL Braxton Hoyett has been released by the @Titans.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 30, 2019
Not a surprise here. An undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State, Hoyett had some moments in preseason action, but was pretty clearly on the lower end of the defensive line rotation.
OT Taylor Marz will be released
OT Tyler Marz has been released by the @Titans. Spent most of the last couple of years with the club between practice squad and active roster.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 30, 2019
WR Anthony Ratliff-Williams, RB Alex Barnes and DB LaDarius Wiley will all be released
WR Anthony Ratliff-Williams, running back Alex Barnes and defensive back LaDarius Wiley have all been waived by the @Titans.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 30, 2019
Ratliff-Williams and Wiley are two of the better practice squad candidates among the players that have been released to this point. I’d guess that either Jeremy McNichols (if he’s released and clears waivers) or Dalyn Dawkins gets the nod on the practice squad over Barnes though.
DL Chris Nelson will be released
#Titans OL Chris Nelson is being cut.
— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) August 30, 2019
OL A.T. Hall will be released
OL AT Hall being released by @Titans
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 30, 2019
OLB LaTroy Lewis will he released
LB LaTroy Lewis is being released. Practice squad may be an option.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 30, 2019
C Hroniss Grasu will be released
Center Hroniss Grasu has been released by @Titans
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 30, 2019
I wonder if Grasu might end up getting a call for the practice squad. He’s close with Marcus Mariota and played pretty well in the preseason.
WR DeAngelo Yancey will be released
#Titans have released WR DeAngelo Yancey per source. Yancey was a late addition to training camp and shows flashes in joint practices vs. the Patriots.
— TURRON DAVENPORT (@TDavenport_NFL) August 30, 2019
DL Frank Herron will be released
DL Frank Herron was released by the @Titans.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 30, 2019
CB Kenneth Durden will be released
Titans cut cornerback Kenneth Darden
— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) August 31, 2019
Not a surprise here, but Durden was a guy that made the team last year. Looks like Tye Smith has likely reclaimed his CB5 spot and his role as a key special teams contributor.
CB Mike Jordan will be released
#Titans are cutting DB Mike Jordan, per source.
— ig: josinaanderson (@JosinaAnderson) August 31, 2019
P Austin Barnard will be released
Punter Austin Barnard has been released by the @Titans.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 31, 2019
G Aaron Stinnie will be released
Guard Aaron Stinnie, who was a member of the 53-man roster last year, has been waived by the @Titans. Practice squad could be an option for him.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 31, 2019
QB Logan Woodside is expected to be released
Expect the #Titans to only keep 2 QBs (Mariota/Tannehill) and to cut Logan Woodside this afternoon, per sources.
— AtoZSports Nashville (@AtoZSports) August 31, 2019
This was one that many thought would go the other way, but ultimately it appears the Titans believe they can get Woodside through waivers and sign him back onto their practice squad. It will be interesting to see if he gets claimed.
WR Kalif Raymond WILL make the Titans 53-man roster
WR Kalif Raymond has made the #Titans 53 man roster, per source. Classic story of a great guy who made the most of his opportunity.
— Justin M (@JustinM_NFL) August 31, 2019
It will be interesting to see what this means for Taywan Taylor. There were so extremely loosely sourced trade rumors floating around yesterday and I think Raymond’s news makes it likely that the Titans are shopping their embattled former 3rd round pick.
RB/FB David Fluellen WILL make the Titans 53-man roster
I’ve been told by a source that David Fluellen has made the #Titans 53 man roster. @1025TheGame
— Chase McCabe (@ChaseOnGame) August 31, 2019
I never thought this was in doubt, but now it’s official. The Titans are likely to use the newly bulked up Fluellen as the primary fullback/H-back on offense in addition to his regular role as a key special teams contributor.
RB Jeremy McNichols will be released
The #Titans are releasing RB Jeremy McNichols, source said. He impressed in the third preseason game.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 31, 2019
McNichols became a fan favorite during preseason thanks to his strong performances, but ultimately that wasn’t enough to force the Titans to keep four running backs. Expect him to be added to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
OL Austin Pasztor will he released
Offensive tackle Austin Pasztor has been released by the @Titans.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 31, 2019
WR Cody Hollister will be released
#Titans WR Cody Hollister has been released.
— Erik Bacharach (@ErikBacharach) August 31, 2019
He had a decent preseason, but was never really a threat to make the roster. Possible practice squad candidate.
CB Kareem Orr will be released
#Titans releasing CB Kareem Orr. Good candidate for the practice squad if he goes unclaimed.
— Erik Bacharach (@ErikBacharach) August 31, 2019
Orr had a nice camp and seems like a great practice squad candidate. His release combined with the release of Durden all but guarantees Tye Smith’s spot on the 53.
DL Isaiah Mack is expected to make the 53-man roster
Indications are that Isaiah Mack will be a part of the @Titans initial 53-man roster.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 31, 2019
This was expected after he got the night off with the rest of the starters/top backups Thursday night. An outstanding camp helped push him over the top.
WR Darius Jennings will make the Titans 53-man roster
Darius Jennings is on the 53-man roster. #Titans
— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) August 31, 2019
Again, this one was expected, but it makes 6 WRs that we feel pretty confident are on the roster. Taywan Taylor would make 7 if he’s kept. No word on his status yet.
DL Amani Bledsoe will be released
DL Amani Bledsoe is being waived by the #Titans. Could be a good practice squad candidate.
— Terry McCormick (@terrymc13) August 31, 2019
He’s a guy that made some early noise, but ultimately couldn’t keep pace with Isaiah Mack. Likely a guy who will be a practice squad priority.
RB Dalyn Dawkins appears likely to make the 53-man roster
I have also come to believe Dalyn Dawkins will make it. #Titans
— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) August 31, 2019
This is one of the bigger surprises. Dawkins massive night in the fourth preseason game may have earned him a roster spot. He’s one of my favorite players to watch so I’m glad he’s sticking around.
