Todd McShay went through all 32 teams and pointed out their best value pick. His selection for the Titans was first round pick Jeffery Simmons. It was probably a pretty easy pick for McShay with Simmons having top 5 talent and falling all the way to #19.
Of course it isn’t THAT easy. There are a lot of other factors in play with Simmons including the assault while in high school and the torn ACL this winter. On the assault, I thought the introductory press conference the Titans did with Simmons that also included Amy Adams Strunk, Jon Robinson and Mike Vrabel gave pretty good insight into Simmons the person. You can listen to some of my thoughts on that on the latest Locked on Titans here.
Here were McShay’s thoughts on the Simmons pick:
Even if he doesn’t suit up at all in Year 1, this was a very good pick. When healthy, he’s one of the five best players in this draft class. He plays with leverage and shows excellent upper-body pop. Simmons is an immediate starter once he recovers from his torn ACL, probably slotting in right next to Jurrell Casey.
