Adam Schefter is reporting that the Titans are expected to release Johnathan Cyprien some time this week:
Titans are expected to release safety Jonathan Cyprien sometime this week, per source. They would like him back, but for less money.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Cyp’s cap number is simply too high for a guy that is the age he is and coming off of the ACL injury. There is also the fact that he shouldn’t have been given that much money in the first place, but that isn’t what we are talking about here.
The writing was on the wall here as well when Jon Robinson said last week that Kenny Vaccaro was a primary target for the Titans in free agency. There are a lot of fans that want both of these guys on the roster, but that isn’t realistic.
Cyprien has been a good guy for this team in the locker room and wasn’t terrible on the field, but Vaccaro is an upgrade over him- especially in coverage. He will cost more, but that’s what it takes to make the roster better.
