The Titans have a massive game against the Oakland Raiders today as they try to advance to 8-5 and eliminate one of their potential competitors for a wildcard spot in the process, but we got some news this morning from ESPN’s Dianna Russini who is reporting that the Titans are having internal discussions about a Ryan Tannehill contract extension.
The Titans are internally discussing a new contract for Ryan Tannehill after the season per source. Not franchise tag, a new deal to be the future starting QB of Tennessee. #titans

That's not necessarily “news” by itself — of course the Titans are discussing a contract extension internally. They are having discussions about all players that are on expiring contracts — but Russini clarifying that they are discussing a contract that would make him the “future starting QB” is interesting. That implies that the team may be considering Tannehill as more than just a bridge quarterback that they would franchise tag for a year while they draft a young QB of the future.
I wouldn’t expect a deal to get done before season’s end — in-season extensions are not a habit of Jon Robinson’s — but it’s sounding more and more likely that Tannehill is the Titans starter in Week 1 of 2020. If he keeps playing like he has over the past six games — or even close to it — that’s a great thing for this franchise.
