Todd McShay 2020 mock draft

Will there ever be a time where I don’t see Todd McShay’s first mock draft of the season and not shake my head? The last 2 years he has led off with the Titans drafting a tight end in the first round. I spent most of the last two draft seasons talking about how ridiculous that is. This year is different, but I still think McShay is way off on his pick for the Titans.

That pick is D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia. Here is what he had to say about the pick:

Despite being right in the thick of a playoff hunt, the Titans do have a few areas of immediate need. And of course they’ll need to evaluate their options with quarterback Ryan Tannehill. But Derrick Henry is a pending free agent, which means Swift’s explosiveness would provide either insurance in case Tennessee loses Henry in the offseason or a potential upgrade from pass-catching scatback Dion Lewis alongside Henry in the more likely case he stays in Nashville.

There is a world where the Titans desperately need a running back this offseason. McShay is correct that Derrick Henry is a pending free agent. It would be insane to me for the Titans to not bring him back, but maybe there isn’t a deal out there that will make both sides happy.

Even with that being the case, I just can’t see Jon Robinson using a first round pick on a running back. You can find a guy later in the draft at running back that can come in a be productive. It is much harder to find an edge rusher, which they still desperately need for the 30th year in a row, in the later rounds.

Those are my thoughts. Would you be happy with Swift in the first round?
