Well, that didn’t take long. Shortly after the announcement that Cairo Santos was being released, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero are now reporting that the Titans new kicker will be Cody Parkey.
The #Titans are flying in former #Bears K Cody Parkey tonight and he’s expected to sign tomorrow, per me and @TomPelissero. A new home for Parkey, who worked out for them in early September.

As noted by Rapoport, Parkey tried out for the job with Santos in September. It doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence that the team is now turning to it’s second choice from that tryout after the first choice panned out so miserably that they abandoned ship after just five games, but here we are.
Parkey started his career with the Eagles before one year stops in Cleveland, Miami, and Chicago. He is most famous for “double doinking” a 43-yard attempt off both uprights during last year’s playoffs with a chance to send the Bears to the next round. That miss turned his former head coach into a meme and led to the team parting ways with him shortly after the season.

Memes aside, Parkey has pretty solid accuracy marks over his five year NFL career, connecting on 83.9% of his attempts, including 7 of 9 from 50-plus. Obviously, the hope would be that a change of scenery helps him regain his form without the baggage of that miss in Chicago lingering over him.
The worry is that — again — he lost out to the guy the Titans just cut and hasn’t attempted a kick in a meaningful game since that playoff miss. You have to wonder what will be going through his head when he gets out there against Denver for the first time as a member of the Titans.
For those wondering... Ryan Succop is eligible to be activated off injured reserve in Week 9 if he’s physically healthy and ready to go. There have been no additional reports about his recovery since it was announced he was going to IR before Week 1 due to a lack of “pop” in his leg.
