For a change, Bill Barnwell wrote something intelligent about the Tennessee Titans. Barnwell has a piece up at ESPN.com where he details all 32 teams map to the Super Bowl. He ranks them in order of ESPN’s Football Power Index- whatever that is. The Titans have the 15th best odds in the league to make the Super Bowl according to that metric.
Barnwell, who we have seen miss on his Titans analysis in multiple articles, actually gets this one correct. He talks about one factor being the health of the Titans, which is uncertain at best right now. He also talks about the change in coaching staff:
Tennessee had enough on its roster to make it to the divisional round of the playoffs last season, and in replacing a known quantity in Mike Mularkey with the unknown of first-time head coach Mike Vrabel and debuting playcaller Matt LaFleur, Tennessee might be able to unlock a career year from Marcus Mariota, who took a step backward last season.
The only issue I have with that last sentence is it should say “will be able to unlock a career year” instead of “might be able to unlock a career year.”
The article is actually really well done. You should check it out.
