We talked about this last night on Locked on Titans (listen here), but you have to dig deeper than the stat sheet to look at how good a couple of the individual performances were yesterday. One guy that really stood out was Corey Davis. He has turned into the guy the quarterbacks go to when they need a big play. Yes, he only had 2 catches yesterday, but they were both huge.
His first catch came yesterday when the Titans were facing a 1st and 20. Marcus Mariota hits Davis about 4 yards down the field. Davis turns it into a first down:
The #Titans drafted Corey Davis to do things just like this… every week… multiple times. pic.twitter.com/hY2VtMBPuK

His second catch came when the Titans were driving to set up what was ultimately the game winning field goal. Mariota finds Davis across the middle on 3rd and 5. Davis beats A.J. Bouye and then breaks Bouye’s attempt at a tackle to pick up the first down:
This 4th quarter, 3rd down play = clutch.

- Mariota avoids the rush to find Corey Davis on the slant
- Davis makes the catch away from his body. Secures the 1st down & is a .5 step away from housing it. #Titans pic.twitter.com/UlMzocVnsV
I understand that just two catches doesn’t make a guy worth the 5th overall pick in the draft, but Davis can continue to build on these performances the sky is the limit for him. Just think about what he can do when the Titans have a healthy quarterback and 2 healthy offensive tackles.
