The Titans currently have 11 players that are scheduled to become free agents after the 2018 season. Taylor Lewan is one of those 11 who will be playing 2018 on the option year of his rookie contract. There is a 0% chance that the Titans let Lewan hit free agency, so we can pretty much just remove him from this list.
That leaves 10 guys with 4 of those guys being pretty pivotal players to the Titans success: Delanie Walker, Brian Orakpo, Rishard Matthews and Derrick Morgan. Is there a world where none of those 4 players are with the Titans in 2019? Probably not, but it is also hard to see a world where all 4 are back.
Delanie will be 34 at the end of the year. The Titans are hoping that Jonnu Smith comes on this year and is ready to step in for Delanie. We will see how that plays out.
With how thin the Titans are at outside linebacker even with Orakpo and Morgan, it is hard to see them letting both walk after the season. Hopefully Honor Landry proves to be the stud we think he is and becomes the headliner of the group. That frees the Titans up to bring back either Orakpo or Morgan on a team-friendly short-term deal.
Matthews has been a great find for this team. Much like OLB, the Titans are very thin at receiver. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Titans try to work out a contract extension with Rishard before the 2018 season is over.
The other 5 guys on the list are Nate Palmer, Quinton Spain, Luke Stocker, Xavier Su’a-Filo, Philip Supernaw and Brynden Trawick. The only true starter in that group is Spain, and we aren’t sure at this point that he will be a starter in the new offense. The Titans tendered him at the lowest possible point for a restricted free agent back in March.
Which of these players do you think it is the most important for the Titans to lock up long term?
