Yesterday Terry and I spent the majority of the podcast (listen here) talking about this study that ranked Titans’ fans as the worst fans in the league. They broke it down by 3 criteria that you can learn more about by clicking on that link. It is a pretty interesting study.
Now I know the first response when you see this is outrage. HOW IN THE WORLD COULD WE RANK BEHIND ..... FANBASE!!!11!1??, but the study is probably not wrong. How many times over the last few years have we heard Titans’ players talk about the other team’s fans taking over Nissan Stadium? The answer is quite a few times.
There are a few reasons for that. The biggest is that the Titans haven’t been consistently good in well over a decade. They also haven’t had a transcendent star since the days of Steve McNair and Eddie George. There is a also the fact that Nashville has become an “it city” over the past 5 years. People love to come here and spend a weekend that caps off with watching their team play on Sunday.
Things will change as Marcus Mariota becomes the star that he will be in a Matt LaFleur offense. The Titans will start to pick up fans across the country as people want players like Mariota, Corey Davis, Dion Lewis and Derrick Henry on their fantasy team or want to play with the Titans on Madden because of those guys. I know that sounds silly, but that is how it works.
It will also change as the Titans put together a consistent winner on the field which I 100% believe they will with Amy Adams-Strunk, Jon Robinson and Mike Vrabel running the show. I can’t wait to see where we (Titans’ fans) rank on this list in 5 years.
