Titans claim OT John Theus, waive DL Antwaun Woods

Roster move.

NFL: Los Angeles Chargers at San Francisco 49ers Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Titans have made a roster move this afternoon, adding more competition to the offensive line. The team claimed offensive tackle John Theus, who has spent time with the 49ers, Panthers and Saints.

Theus was a 5th round selection of the 49ers in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was waived by the Saints on Wednesday.

In order to make room for Theus, the team waived nose tackle Antwaun Woods. That’s a bit of a surprising move, simply considering the numbers that the Titans now have on the defensive line.

Jurrell Casey, DaQuan Jones, Bennie Logan, Austin Johnson and David King are probably five locks up front, but Woods’ departure opens up the door to add one more.

Theus will come in behind Taylor Lewan, Jack Conklin and Dennis Kelly, perhaps providing more insurance for the team if Conklin isn’t ready to go after his knee injury during the playoffs last year.

There’s now competition at both tackle and guard after the additions of Xavier Su’a-Filo and Kevin Pamphile, which is never a bad thing.
