Titans 53-man roster predictions and position battles

Our first look after the draft.

Sports: Titans Uniforms Andrew Nelles-USA TODAY Sports

Now that the draft is complete we have a better idea of what the Titans 53-man roster will look like when September rolls around. There are still some places they will add guys. My guess is that they would love to add a veteran safety and/or receiver that gets cut between now and when the season starts. They might also be interested in bringing Erik Walden back for another year because he proved to be a valuable pass rushing piece last year.

This is going to be a fun training camp to watch. The Titans finally have a talented roster. That means there will be some real battles in training camp for the last spot on the final 53. Keep an eye on guys on special teams in the preseason. That can be the difference in making the team or not. Last night we had Mike Keith on Locked on Titans (listen here) and he mentioned David Fluellen specifically as a guy that has a really good chance to make the team because he is so good on “teams.”

With all of that being said, here is my first Titans 53-man roster prediciton:

[UPDATE]- I added Austin Johnson and removed Josh Carraway.

QB- Marcus Mariota, Blaine Gabbert, Luke Falk (3)

RB- Derrick Henry, Dion Lewis, David Fluellen, Akrum Wadley (4)

WR- Corey Davis, Rishard Matthews, Taywan Taylor, Tajae Sharpe, Michael Campanaro, Deontay Burnett (6)

TE- Delanie Walker, Jonnu Smith, Luke Stocker (3)

OL- Taylor Lewan, Jack Conklin, Dennis Kelly, Josh Kline, Quinton Spain, Kevin Pamphile, Xavier Su’a-Filo, Ben Jones (8)

DL- Jurrell Casey, DaQuan Jones, Antwuan Woods, Bennie Logan, David King, Austin Johnson (6)

OLB- Brian Orakpo, Derrick Morgan, Honor Harold Landry, Kevin Dodd, Aaron Wallace (5)

ILB- Rashaan Evans, Jayon Brown, Wesley Woodyard, Will Compton, Daren Bates (5)

CB- Adoree Jackson, Logan Ryan, Malcolm Butler, LeShaun Sims, Tye Smith (5)

S- Kevin Byard, Johnathan Cyprien, Dane Cruikshank, Brynden Trawick (4)

LS- Beau Brinkley

P- Brett Kern

K- Ryan Succop

The roster battle to watch in camp will be left guard. Spain has been a good player there for this team for the last 2 years, but is he athletic enough to hold on to that spot in the new system. The Titans didn’t add anything there in the draft, but they did sign Su’a-Filo and Pamphile in free agency. That will be fun to watch.

The other note I will make here is that Dodd is my 53rd man on the roster right now. He is going to have to prove he can bring something with a pass rush because he doesn’t play special teams. I have a feeling Mike Vrabel will make him a special project through this preseason. Can he and Dean Pees get something out of Dodd that the previous staff couldn’t?
