Titans sign kicker Ryan Succop to five year contract extension

The Titans lock up one of their key soon-to-be free agents.

The Titans locked up one of their key free agents today as the team announced they had agreed to terms on a 5-year, $20M contract extension for kicker Ryan Succop.

Succop has been the Titans place kicker since claiming off waivers from the Chiefs before the start of the 2014 season. Over four years in Tennessee he has made 86.5% of his field goal attempts with a very memorable long of 53-yards on a frigid Kansas City day in 2016. That kick against his former team capped off a career best year for the 31-year old in which he hit 22 of his 24 attempts.

While he doesn’t have the biggest leg in the league, Succop is among the most steady and reliable kickers around. He, long snapper Beau Brinkley, and Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern make up one of the best groups of specialists in the NFL so it makes sense to keep that group — who are also good friends off the field — together a while longer. Just ask the Bucs what its like to chase kickers. The deal makes Succop the 4th highest paid kicker in the league behind Stephen Gostkowski, Justin Tucker, and Mason Crosby according to OverTheCap.com.
