We are still about a month away from the beginning of free agency. There are a million lists out there that rank the guys that are set to become free agents when the new league year starts on March 14th. Those lists aren’t really worth anything because a large majority of the guys that are listed won’t ever make it to free agency.
With all of that being said, ESPN has put out their top 50 potential free agents (In$ider). On that list, you will find two players, Avery Williamson and Josh Kline, that were members of the Tennessee Titans in 2017. They are listed at number 43 and 44 respectively.
Here are the comments on Williamson:
Williamson has been a steady and reliable defensive anchor for the past four seasons. He has missed only one game while averaging 94 tackles per year.
And Kline:
The former Patriots starter found a home in the Titans’ run-oriented scheme over the past two years. Since the start of the 2016 season, during which Kline made 30 starts, the Titans rushed for 4,020 yards -- the third most in the NFL over that span.
Here’s my prediction for what happens with those 2 guys: Williams is allowed to hit the market and ends up elsewhere after turning down an offer from the Titans before free agency opens because he thinks he can get more on the open market. He doesn’t end up getting much more and takes similar money to play somewhere else.
Kline ends up back with the Titans on a reasonable 2-3 year deal before free agency opens. The Titans will end up taking a guard in the draft somewhere in the 3rd-5th round that comes to camp to compete with Kline.
Assuming all of the guys that are currently slated to become free agents end up hitting the market (which I know will never happen), who should be priority #1 for Jon Robinson?
