Brian Orakpo announced today that he is retiring from the NFL. Orakpo just wrapped up his 10th season in the NFL. He has spent the last 4 years in Tennessee with the Titans. His career ends with 66 sacks.
We already knew the Titans were going to need help at outside linebacker. Orakpo’s contract expires at the end of the season. The same is true for Derrick Morgan. We will see a changing of the guard at the position in 2019. It will be time for Harold Landry to become the leader of that group.
Orakpo should be one of the guys that gets credit for changing the culture in this locker room. It has been pretty widely reported how much of a mess the locker room was right before he got here. He came in and showed the people on the team how to act like a professional. That sounds simple, but it was a huge thing here. The Titans aren’t coming off 3 consecutive winning seasons without guys like Brian Orakpo.
