It was reported by Ian Rapoport over the weekend that DeSean Jackson has asked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a trade. If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I kind of went off the other night about all of the ridiculous trade rumors that have been suggested regarding the Titans and wide receivers. Some of the rumors that have been out there are simply ridiculous.
HOWEVA, a match between DJax and the Titans would actually make a lot of sense. First off, Jackson would bring the Titans a speed element that they are desperately missing currently. Jackson isn’t young but he can still get behind the defense.
This match also makes sense because the Buccaneers at 3-4 are all but done. They are 3 games behind the Saints in the NFC South and have little hope of making a push with how bad their defense is.
Another reason this trade makes sense for the Bucs is because they have a talented receiver group and a really good young player in Chris Godwin that is currently stuck behind Jackson. They are probably looking for ways to get him on the field more.
And finally, a deal makes sense because Jackson has 1 year left on his deal after this season at $10 million. They aren’t paying him that for 2019 so they might as well get a pick for him now to help rebuild that defense.
Jon Robinson has a history with the front office there in Tampa Bay. I would bet preliminary conversations have already been had.
