There have been rumors swirling around about Amari Cooper being on the trade block for a couple of weeks now. Raiders coach Jon Gruden was asked about the Cooper trade rumors after his team got boat-raced in London and was very non-specific in his answer. Well yesterday Ian Rapoport reported that the Raiders are asking for a first round pick in exchange for Cooper. Good luck with that.
The Titans need a receiver. Cooper would definitely be an upgrade over pretty much anything they have on the roster, but they would be crazy to give up a first round pick for him. The Titans need all of the draft picks they have over the next couple of years. There are some pretty big holes on this roster.
You also have to account for Amari’s contract status. He is in his 4th year right now. The Raiders picked up his 5th year option which will cost $13.924 million in 2019. The cap room isn’t necessarily the issue here. The issue is that you could be spending a first round pick on what would essentially be a year and a half rental player. The Titans just can’t afford to do that from a player currency standpoint.
Now, if the Jon Robinson can get Amari for a 4th round pick, I would be all in for that.
