Last night it was announced that the Kansas City Chiefs were trading Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins. The Chiefs got a third round pick and CB Kendall Fuller in the deal. Smith got a new contract from the Redskins, and Kirk Cousins essentially got his walking papers.
Cousins is about to become a very rich man. He will end up as the highest paid player in the NFL when free agency opens in a few weeks. Let’s just hope he doesn’t end up signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. They are a quarterback away from having a really dominant team.
The good news is that they are already on the hook to pay to pay Blake Bortles just over $19 million after they picked up his 5th year option before the 2017 season. It would be hard to see them committing $25-30 million per year to Cousins at this point. I think they would be much more likely to try and make a move to get Eli Manning.
So Kirk, I hear that Denver is a great place to play football.
