There are reports out there today that Todd Haley will not return to the Pittsburgh Steelers as their offensive coordinator. He wasn’t fired because his contract is up. They are just choosing to move on from him at this point.
Why this could be important to us here is that there are ties between Mike Vrabel, who will interview for the Titans’ head coaching job on Thursday, and Haley. Haley was the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009-2011. Vrabel played for the Chiefs in 2009 and 2010. So we know that they know each other, but we have no idea how they feel about each other.
As for Haley as an OC, there is no doubt he has been the play caller for some really successful offenses in Pittsburgh. Now, the question has to be asked, how hard is it to have a successful offense when you have Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell?
My biggest reservation with Haley is that he seems to be from the Mike Mularkey school of offense. He has a system that he is going to run regardless of what the opposing defense does or doesn’t do well. I really want the Titans to hire someone that is willing to adapt the game plan every week based on what the opposing team presents.
How would you feel about a combination of Vrabel as HC and Haley as OC?
