Mike Mularkey OUT as Titans head coach

NFL: AFC Divisional Playoff-Tennessee Titans at New England Patriots Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Field Yates of ESPN is reporting that the Titans and Mike Mularkey have mutually agreed to part ways:

I’m really not shocked to see this. I am a little surprise after the reports of the contract extension last night, but as we said on the podcast and as I just wrote, there had to be something in that extension saying Mularkey had to make changes to his staff. He made it pretty clear yesterday that he was unwilling to do that. So here we are...ala Mike Munchak a few years ago.

Now the search begins. I would be willing to put a lot of money on Josh McDaniels being the next head coach of your Tennessee Titans. Ian Rapoport said that McDaniels would be the target had the Titans lost to the Chiefs, and Robinson and McDaniels know each other dating back their days in New England.

McDaniels won’t be able to officially interview with the team until after the AFC Championship game. I would expect the Titans to interview a couple of other people in the mean time, and they will have to interview at least one minority candidate to fulfill the Rooney Rule.
