Ian Rapoport reported last night that the Titans have offered Mike Mularkey a contract extension. That really doesn’t come as a surprise after Amy Adams-Strunk gave him the vote of confidence last week, but there was still a part of me that was hoping she would change her mind and move on. She apparently didn’t.
One thing of note from the Rapoport tweet, he didn’t say the Titans have agreed to a contract extension with Mularkey. He said the Titans have offered him an extension. My hope is that there are some contingencies in that extension that require him to make changes to his staff. Mularkey said yesterday that he isn’t planning on making any changes to his staff, and that Terry Robiskie did “a very good job” this season.
Mularkey is either out of touch or just too stubborn to admit what a disaster this season was on offense. That’s why it is up to Jon Robinson to save him (and us) from himself. And honestly, my opinion of Robinson will be diminished if he allows Mularkey to come back and not make any changes to the staff.
I find it really hard to believe that AAS and Robinson would be on board with everything remaining the same after they were ready to fire him if he didn’t win against the Jaguars or the Chiefs. There HAS to be something tied to signing this extension that calls for changes on the staff....or maybe I am just telling myself that to keep from going crazy....
