Will Logan Ryan shadow DeAndre Hopkins on Sunday?

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at Tennessee Titans Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

I have said this before, but it needs to be repeated: You should be listening to Greg Cosell of NFL Films on the Midday 180 every week. Most weeks he is on during the 12:00 on Wednesdays. You will learn more about football in that 15 minute segment than anything else you do during the week.

Anyway, today Jonathan Hutton asked him about Logan Ryan matching up against DeAndre Hopkins last season (I will link the podcast to the interview when it is posted). As you know, Ryan was on the Patriots last season. The Patriots and the Texans met twice last year- once in the regular season and once in the playoffs. Cosell, after going back and consulting his notes, said that Ryan basically stayed with Hopkins in base and nickel in those 2 games. Hopkins totaled 10/121/0 on 17 targets in those 2 games. I think we can all say that we would take a 5/61/0 line from Hopkins in this game especially considering that Hopkins has averaged 6/103/.63 against the Titans in his career.

The Titans haven’t shadowed under Dick LeBeau. Part of that is probably because they haven’t had corners that were good enough to follow the other team’s best receiver. That could change now, however. There was some talk about one of the reasons the Titans took Adoree Jackson was because of how he could match-up against a guy like T.Y. Hilton. That sounds like shadow foreshadowing (see what I did there?) to me.

This will be something to keep an eye on this week. It will also give us some insight on if the Titans planning on doing it more down the road with Adoree and Hilton...or in similar match-ups.
