The Titans are the odds on favorite to win the AFC South. That has been the case for most of the offseason, but if you would have asked me who their biggest competition would be I would have said the Texans. Of course it is just week 1, but that certainly doesn’t look like the case so far.
The Jaguars went to Houston and dismantled the Texans from start to finish. Jacksonville has been investing a lot of capital in their defense for the last 3 or 4 years. It really looks like it has finally come together. The Jags had 10(!) sacks against the Texans. This allowed Jacksonville to hide Blake Bortles, which is the only shot they have at having a successful season.
We knew the Texans had questions at quarterback. It was surprising that after being adamant all offseason that Tom Savage is their starter, they switched to Deshaun Watson after just one half of football. Watson will also get the start in week 2 on Thursday Night Football against the Bengals.
There is still a lot of football to played, but people are really high on the Jaguars after their week 1 performance. That is the biggest NFL surprise after week 1. Hopefully the Titans can go down there and bring the Jags expectations back to where they probably should be- as a team that has a really good offense but is going to struggle to score points.
