EVERYONE CALM DOWN

I will start by saying the loss in week one was very disappointing but I saw enough from players on the team to give me confidence going forward. I will break down things from the offense and defense that I saw both positive and negative and my suggestions and opinions going forward.

Offense: The very first thing I would say was a positive is Marcus Mariota's health. I loved seeing him run on the designed run plays he took a sack and got back up I am very happy that he is back to 100%. The second thing I would say I liked is Corey Davis he had some miscommunication on routes this was to be expected with the time he missed but he had 6 catches for 69 yards and a huge catch down the right sideline on David Amerson. We need to get this man the ball and I think Marcus knows it he led the team in targets after not practicing or playing all preseason. The last thing that I liked was the offensive line in it's pass protection. The run blocking was not great we were not able to open up running lanes at all but to stonewall Khalil Mack for most of the game is impressive. Eric Decker goes in the do not like pile for me this week he played the most snaps and made the least impact on Sunday. I believe we need to get Taywan Taylor on the field more he makes explosive plays and played more than anyone else in the WR corps this preseason. I do not want everyone to think this is a knee jerk reaction I just always saw Decker as a red zone guy we can use him for his blocking and leave him on the field I just think Taylor is better for the offense the more Taylor and Davis the better. Aside from that we got solid games out of Delanie Walker and Rishard Mathews.

Defense: For the most part I have been seeing this group take a lot of blame in this loss and I may have an odd opinion here but I think they did a pretty good job considering you went against one of the best your qbs in the league with one of the best overall receiving corps. They also added a monster in Marshawn Lynch who is off 2 years of rest he is similar to the demarco we got last year. The titans got 2 back to back sacks on Derrick Carr this is impressive the raiders led the league in allowed sacks with only 18 last year. I think the pass rush will be great against teams that don't have a top 3 O-line. The secondary had it's ups and downs but I think overall it was a decent day. Adoree Jackson got picked on but he held his own I was proud of the performance he put on against a pro bowl QB and 2 pro bowl WRs. He stopped a touchdown and was always where he needed to be just has to work on swatting the ball more. Logan Ryans got beat on a pass but everyone gets beat. We held the raiders to 26 points and made them kick 4 field goals there is no way we knew that this kicker that had never seen action would be so automatic. 2 TD's on the day one of which was after we gave the Raiders great field position. Overall I liked most of what I saw from the defense but Byard and Cyprien were both very bad on the day I think Byard will bounce back we can only hope that Searcy plays better than Cyp did.

Coaching: I will combine coaching and special teams here there wasn't much of note here other than a bone headed running into the kicker call that potentially cost us the game. This came when the score was 16-10 but I thought it was a huge play in this game. Coaching I did not have the biggest problem with but I do think that the Titans need to pass to open up the run. This sounds counter productive to what we are supposed to do but I do not see any reason why Marcus does not average 300+ yards and up to 3 TD each game with the talent that we have out there. Everyone in the league knows the Titans want to run the ball mix it up take a shot downfield if the defense fears your attack through the air they will not focus on the ground and that is when we can gash them. The last thing I will say is I know Mularkey has caught alot of flack for his onside kick decision. I personally loved this call the raiders were not prepared the guy on the recovery team messed this one up to me. I have been one of the people on this site to wish this team would go for more 4th and 1's and really try to win the game instead of being conservative. The colts have done this very thing to us and we always say we wish we had the guts to do something like this it was an aggressive playcall and it didn't work the Raider's went on to score but people on this site act as though we did not immediately go down the field and tie the game. I liked it if there are more risky calls in the future I am on board I believe in this team's talent they just need a little time to mesh together.
