I finally got to attend a training camp practice this morning. It was good to be out there to see the action first hand. The highlight of the day was a fight that ensued after Derrick Henry scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. The fight started between Kourtnei Brown and Quinton Spain, but the majority of the players on the field jumped in before it was all over. Titans GM Jon Robinson was instrumental in breaking the fight up. It was a pretty good fight as training camp fights go.
The offensive line did a nice job today. They were opening huge holes throughout the day and all 3 running backs (Derrick Henry, David Fluellen, and Khalfani Muhammad) benefited nicely. DeMarco Murray is still sidelined with a hamstring injury that will keep him on the shelf for the first preseason game.
It was interesting watching the defensive backs in the 7 on 7 drill. Logan Ryan, Brice McCain and Adoree Jackson were your starters, but they moved around based on where certain receivers went. The Titans haven’t been much of a shadowing team in the past, but it looks like that might change this year.
One guy that stood out to me was WR Mekale McKay. I don’t see him as a guy that ends up on the final 53-man roster, but he could be a guy that makes some noise in the preseason and ends up on the practice squad.
The Titans will be back on the practice field in the morning before heading to New Jersey for their first preseason game against the New York Jets.
