Marcus Mariota will play in the Titans preseason opener

No surprise, but still very good news!

Tonight there was more great news on Marcus Mariota’s progression from the injury he suffered last December against the Jaguars. Mike Mularkey told reporters after practice that Mariota will play in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Jets. How much is yet to be determined, according to Jim Wyatt, but Mariota will be out there.

This is what Mularkey had to say (via Wyatt):

“I don’t want to see what (Marcus) would do if I told him he couldn’t play,” Mularkey said with a smile. “I think it is important for him to get into a real game and a real rush where they can actually come close to you. Here they are instructed to stay away from him at all cost. … It will be good for him to get his feet wet a little bit.”

There was really never any doubt in my mind that Mariota would play in the preseason- especially after he was even allowed to do some full team stuff at the end of the last OTA. This just confirms the fact that he is 100%.

Now it would be nice if we can get Corey Davis back on the field so that he and Mariota can start working on their chemistry within the offense. Unfortunately, there is currently no timetable on that happening.
