I was starting to get a little bit worried. Blake Bortles went full Blake Bortles in preseason week 2 and Jaguars coach Doug Marrone opened the quarterback competition. Would they really not run Blake Bortles out there and kill their chances of having a good season??
Well never fear, this morning it has been announced that Bortles will in fact be the starter in week 1 of the 2017 season! If we are being honest, the Jaguars have a pretty good team. The one thing that is holding them back from being really good is Bortles.
Now, it’s not that I fear Chad Henne, but I do feel like he has a better understanding of how not to kill a team that wants to run the ball and play good defense.
Let’s take a minute to evaluate the QB situations in the AFC South:
The Jaguars are running Bortles out there.
It really doesn’t seem like Andrew Luck is going to be ready to go for the Colts in week 1 considering he still hasn’t practiced.
The Texans are starting Tom Savage, at least for now. I do think they have a good one in Deshaun Watson, but they don’t think he is ready yet.
The Titans have Marcus MariGOATa under center. Yep, it’s a really good time to be a Titans fan!
