Titans News!
Jim Wyatt breaks down six things that stood out to him from the Titans’ preseason opener on Saturday. Mariota’s movement looked pretty aiight. He moved well, showed good speed, and threw the ball on the run. Protection of the quarterback looked nonexistent. The line gave up eight sacks Saturday night. Yikes. Logan Ryan’s debuted wasn’t all that great. It’s still early though, so don’t give up on the guy just yet. Kevin Byard and Jayon Brown pwned. Byard’s aggressiveness in the run games is what stood out the most to Wyatt. Jayon Brown was quick, made a number of tackles, and used good technique on those tackles as well. Finally: Mularkey’s mood wasn’t so cheery after the loss. Mularkey called the game a “wake up call,” and he doesn’t want the team’s mindset to slip.

Quick Hit: Titans add long snapper Ryan DiSalvo.

Let’s talk about that “wake up call” for a moment. Mularkey acknowledged some positives from Mariota’s return, and from the defense (aside that first drive), but mistakes on offense by veteran players made him pretty frustrated. Mularkey watched the film, and there were less mistakes than he thought, but the mistakes that were made were “critical and catastrophic.” Mularkey isn’t allowing players to use the fact that this was the first preseason game as an excuse for sucking.

Quick Hit: Tajae Sharpe is “champing at the bit” to return.

Bonus: Titans should embrace “hit in mouth” by Jets.

That’s all for today. Happy reading!
