3 Players to Watch and 3 Predictions: Titans-Jets Preseason Game #1

Some thoughts on the Titans going in to their preseason kickoff in New York.

The Tennessee Titans will be back on your TV screen tonight! To help get you ready for kickoff I’m going to give you three players to watch and three predictions for tonight’s game.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

1 - Adoree Jackson #25

A hamstring injury will keep us from seeing the Titans other first round pick, Corey Davis, in action this week, but we will get to see Adoree Jackson for the first time and Jackson is very fun to watch. He is pushing for a starting role at corner so it will be interesting to see what he can do out there. Jackson is a playmaking corner who can create turnovers and is quite capable of scoring off those turnovers as well. In addition to his role at corner, he will also get a chance to return some kicks and punts tonight and he is truly electric with the ball in his hands.

2 - Jonathan Krause #17

This spot was reserved for Mekale McKay but I’m not 100% sure he will be able to go after tweaking a hamstring in practice late last week. Instead, I’m going to suggest another buzzy camp receiver in Jonathan Krause. Krause is a former Vanderbilt receiver who has bounced around the NFL on various practice squads since 2014 including stints with the Patriots, Bucs, Eagles, Chargers, and Browns. He is on the smaller side at 5’-11" tall and 190 pounds, but he ran a 4.37 40 and has made some nice plays during camp. Mularkey has said a few times that he needs to be more consistent. Someone is going to have to get some of these 2nd half opportunities and I think Krause could make some plays.

If McKay does go, check out #2. He will be hard to miss at 6’-5" tall and 210 pounds.

3 - Jayon Brown #55

Brown has been the recipient of almost non-stop praise from the coaching staff since he showed up for OTAs back in May. His speed and coverage skills make him stand out in a lot of practice settings, but I’m interested to see how he looks in live game action. As an undersized linebacker I specifically want to see how he holds up in the run game.

PREDICTIONS

1 - Kevin Dodd gets a sack.

Dodd has looked good in camp and appears to be moving around a little better now that his foot is healthy for the first time as a Titan. He should get a good bit of work with the 2nd unit on defense and I think he gets home at some point.

2 - Adoree Jackson scores a touchdown.

This is a fairly bold prediction, but when I gazed in to my crystal ball I saw Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg, and Bryce Petty looking back at me. Throw in the chance that Jackson gets free on a punt or kick return and I think this could happen.

3 - We see at least one carry for Taywan Taylor.

One of the things that has become very clear from watching practices over the last couple weeks is that the Titans are going to look for creative ways to get Taylor the ball in space. They’ve used him on a couple reverses and even lined him up in the backfield as a fullback on Thursday at one point. I bet we see one of these plays tonight.
