Marcus Mariota is going to get paid

NFL: Tennessee Titans-Minicamp Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Derek Carr just got the richest contract in football history. His deal is for 6 years and $126.15 million. $70 million(!) of that is guaranteed. (As an aside, go watch Carr’s press conference when the team officially announced his new contract. He seems like a really good dude.) Carr is clearly pretty excited about that deal.

The only person that might be more excited about that deal is Titans QB Marcus Mariota (and his agent). His deal, which the Titans will probably start working on next offseason, will approach, if not exceed, $30 million per year. I could probably live off of that.

To Mariota’s credit, he’s only interested in talking about what’s going to happen on the field in 2017 (from NFL.com):

"For any athlete, anybody in professional sports, it's out of your control. I mean, you've got to play well, you've got to do certain things, things kind of have to line up for those contracts to happen. I can't think about next season or the season after that," Mariota told KHON-TV in Hawaii. "I've got to focus on our first game and continue to be the best guy that I can be for the team. If all those things happen and things go right and that contract is up, and you know, I'd love to be in Nashville and I think the Titans are such a great organization, that it would be a lot of fun to play for them for a long time."
