Report: Titans Sign Pass Rusher Erik Walden

Insurance on the edge.

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

I’ve been preaching about the Titans lack of depth all summer long, now it appears that Jon Robinson has answered that question. The Titans have signed edge rusher Erik Walden, per RapSheet.

Walden will immediately come in a provide experienced depth for the Titans on the edge. Jon Robinson simply couldn’t go into the season with unproven late round picks and the often injured Kevin Dodd. It’s just too risky.

The Titans have a good duo with Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo, but virtually nothing proven behind them. That changes today. Walden posted 11 sacks last season, but was somehow still on open market. You know how Jon Robinson loves production, so Walden fits his mold.

You probably remember Walden best for head-butting Delanie Walker a couple of seasons back. That may make for an awkward exchange in the locker room.

My immediate reaction points to Kevin Dodd here. It’s hard to imagine the Titans signing Walden if Dodd was ready to go. Maybe he is and maybe this is just insurance. It’s certainly going to make it harder for guys like Aaron Wallace and Josh Carraway to make the final 53 man roster.
